Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: SE/S Wind Stength: F4_F6 Surf / Sea State: Mid Swell / Flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Cloudy / sunny Max Speed: 19.63 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 16.2 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Another 5 star day at Bradfield. Only 3 out as South here is offshore and
the other favoured river venue Levington was onshore. One fin, 2 wings and
me on windfoil. The day looked quite calm on the shore and wings went 5m
and fin 6m. I rigged 6.6 with the water looking so flat.
The winger and fin seemed OK, but my gut feeling was I would be overpowered
as the wind swung SE. As soon as I reached the wind band I was battered in
some strong gusts, so had to continual run full down wind or dead upwind. I
was hoping it would drop but sadly not. I had some great runs to the bay a
mile away, in the lulls, either reaching full length of the river or
running away from it! Every gybe crashed so got very tired.
I went back in and change to 5.8m which was still too much, mainly because
I forgot to change the 1300 front wing to my 900. Although I enjoyed it, it
was hard work. I used my waist harness today, thinking it was going to be
light winds, but wish I had brought my seat harness. The wingers were going
great and the fin guy was tanking across the river in the big gusts.
I didn't even bother to try for speed but clocked 19.63 kts covering around
16nm. The swell in the middle was big forcing me to fly high, but luckily I
was going with them. Another great day in good weather. You cant beat the
easy rigging area on the river bank. I still cant seem to rig correctly tho
for a given wind condition, very strange.
